Hook-up cable
A hook-up cable is the lead that carries power from a campsite's supply point to your equipment. Its plug, socket and length must suit the site, so the site's instructions decide which type you need.
Where you'll see it
You'll meet the term on campsite pages about electric hook-up, on equipment packaging and in pitch instructions. Sites often state which lead, plug and adaptor they accept. If you are unsure, ask reception before you travel.
What to check
- The lead type, plug and adaptor the site accepts, as stated on its booking or hook-up page.
- The distance from the supply point to your pitch, and whether the lead reaches without being stretched tight.
- The cable's condition, with no cuts, cracks or damage. Replace a damaged lead rather than taping over it.
- That the lead is made for outdoor hook-up use, as the maker states.
Related terms
