Glamping pod

A glamping pod is a self-contained, pre-built holiday unit, usually with a more solid build than a tent. Pods are often furnished, but the bathroom, kitchen and heating differ between providers, so the word alone does not tell you what you will get.

Where you'll see it

Glamping sites list pods as their own accommodation type, sometimes with a photo and a floor plan. A pod may have its own bathroom or sit near a shared toilet and shower block. Read the listing for the exact pod, not only the site's general facilities page.

What to check

  • Whether the pod has its own bathroom and kitchen, or whether you use shared facilities.
  • Whether beds, bedding and towels are provided, and whether any of them are an extra.
  • The heating and the provider's safety notes for using it. Never bring a stove, BBQ or gas heater inside a pod or at its door.
  • What electricity the provider supplies and what it says you can run. If you plug anything in, use kit made for outdoor hook-up. See hook-up.
  • The arrival and parking details, and the walk to the facilities if the pod has no bathroom.
  • Glamping: the wider term for furnished stays.
  • Shepherd's hut: another solid, self-contained unit.
  • Hook-up: the electric connection some units rely on.
