Glamping

Glamping is a holiday stay in a furnished or ready-made unit, such as a bell tent, safari tent, yurt, pod, cabin or shepherd's hut. Unlike camping, you usually do not bring the shelter yourself. What is included varies widely, so compare each unit's listing.

Where you'll see it

Holiday sites, farms and campsites use the term for furnished units, often in a separate area from the pitches. The word does not tell you what is included, so read the listing for the unit you are booking and ask the provider to confirm anything that matters to you.

What to check

  • Whether beds, bedding and towels are included, and whether any of them cost extra.
  • Whether the unit has a private bathroom, or whether you share facilities.
  • The cooking and heating arrangements, and what the provider expects you to bring.
  • The arrival details, parking and how to find the unit after dark.
  • The provider's plan for poor weather, if you want one in place before you travel.
