Polycotton
A polycotton is a tent fabric woven from a blend of polyester and cotton. The cotton fibres swell when they get wet, which can tighten the weave, while the polyester adds strength and helps the fabric keep its shape.
Where you'll see it
You will usually find polycotton in the fabric line of a tent's specification, on the maker's page or the label. It is common on traditional-style tents, including some bell tents. A blended fabric is often heavier and slower to dry than many modern synthetic fabrics, so the fabric type tells you something about how the tent will pack and carry.
What to check
- The fabric line on the product page, which should name the blend and the layer it applies to.
- The weight the maker lists for the tent, since heavier fabric adds to what you carry.
- The care instructions, including how the maker says to dry and store the fabric.
- Whether the maker gives guidance on re-proofing the fabric over time.
